To permanently paint chrome, you'll need to follow these steps:
1. Clean the chrome surface thoroughly with soap and water to remove any dirt or grease.
2. Sand the chrome with fine-grit sandpaper (like 220-grit) to remove the shine and create a surface that paint can adhere to.
3. Wipe down the sanded chrome with a tack cloth or a cloth dampened with mineral spirits to remove dust and debris.
4. Apply a self-etching primer specifically designed for metal surfaces; this will help the paint bond to the chrome.
5. Once the primer is dry, apply your chosen paint. Use a paint that's suitable for metal surfaces and apply it in thin, even coats.
6. After the paint has dried, apply a clear sealant for added durability.
Remember to work in a well-ventilated area and use appropriate safety gear, such as gloves and a mask.
